Trash: anycoloryoulike
http://anycoloryoulike.biz/arp/Just got to know about this from over at the Discovery Channel and felt that it was really interesting. Part of the channel's "e-novations" segment.
Can't think of where to put this yet (actually I can but I'm tired just thinking about work since the exams were only just yesterday...) so I decided to share them here first before I have to come up with a fairly more competent entry to introduce the site to the others.
So well, enjoy!

The Bored People have been busy
No updates here! Everyone's been so busy with school and others to type an entry here, so I shall take the honour! =)
The exams are coming! Everyone do take care of your health, drink lots of water, stay off the unhealthy fried food and keep your hands off the remote!
Study hard for now and let's play hard after the exams! What are the after-exams plans, everyone? Enjoy thinking about this in between those boring lecture notes!
To the speedy spidey who is still not feeling well after so long since the flu wave hit after the recess week, I wish you a speedy recovery!
And to HJ the lame one - are you better from your cold yet? Don't be too "leng"! haha. Maybe that will help?
And to Sab the live wire - don't fall sick like the others! Stay strong and equip yourself with Vits and minerals!
So are we ready now? Almost just one more week to the exams!
Good luck!

Review on the meatballs show
I realized i have not came to this blog for a long time.. and the last post is on 1 Jan by K..
Alritez, yesterdae E , K and me went to TM to watch 'Cloudy with a chance of meatballs (in 3D)'!!!! Its a fantastic movie and totally change my mindset of watching animation in the cinema is a waste of money.
there is a lot of first time for me. This is the first time i watch 3D show, this is the first time i watch an animation at a cinema, this is the first time i ate Qi Ji nasi lemak and tis is the first time i watch movie with E and K together.
Wats so fantastic about the show???
Firstly, the graphics are awesome. The colours, the drawings, the animations... I am really amazed by the animations as every single actions from the movement of food dropping down from the sky to the little actions of the characters. The attempts to pull moustache by Flint's pet monkey and the turning of heads at the nick of time is one of the classic example. The 3D effects help in making the animations more 'real'. (despite the fact that the special specs does not fit well with the spectacles which cause some discomfort.)
Unlike some animations, the story development is really well-developed and make the characters come alive. I like the part they compare and contrast two sets of father and son relationship with one keep telling the son that he loves him while other using actions to show his love and concern for his child.
Many themes are explored in this movie.
It addressed the problem about hunger problem across the world with 1 out of 6 people in the world surviving in hunger. The creation of the machine which will rain down food maybe a dream to solve this hunger problem. However, humans are greedy as protrayed by the Mayor who wants more n better n bigger food which caused huge problems as it started raining down huge food. Similar to the real world, since industrialization, people have been taking advantage of technology to mass produce resulting in many different kinds of pollution, causing harm to the environment.
Every one has a dream and ambition when young. However as we grow older, the dream seems increasingly impossible. I remembered my childhood dream is to be a scientist, well I wonder will I ever fulfill my dream?
The reality of the world has forced us to move with the crowd and do what is acceptable by the crowd. Wearing contact lenses, being slim... are some examples of ways to be prettier... But in actual fact does it makes you happier? Being urself is hard. Well I think that there is nothing wrong being a nerd and in fact I am proud to be one...
There is a trend of shifitng of shows focusing on mother-child relationship to father-child relationship. Men generally do not express their love and concern verbally which may cause misunderstanding between the child and him.
The most common theme - love is explored. The love b/w Flint and Sam, the love b/w Flint and his father, the love Flint ha for his town.
The movie has somewhat revive my passion for Science. Science has always been my favourite subject second by Chinese and Art. It is always so interesting to study Science.. whichever science. however as we grew older, the concepts become more and more complex and difficult to grasp. It is not as easy as I thought. Many people around me seems to enter the business world which is seen as a more viable route. Is that really the case? How far can I go then in the world of Science? Or will I surrender and enter the business world with the business politics surrounding me? But there is one thing for certain that is I will still love Science even though I may not be doing something related to it in the future.
All in all, this show is fanatisc. I gave it 5/5! If you have time and some spare cash, go watch this movie but do not go in with an empty stomach.

Geography on New Year's Day
Just some interesting stuff on New Year's Day. It's good to learn some new things!
As small as we think Singapore is, do you know that it is not even on the list of the top 10 smallest country?
The list is as follows:
Vatican City - 0.2 square miles
Monaco - 0.7 square miles
Nauru - 8.5 square miles
Tuvalu - 9 square miles
San Marino - 24 square miles
Liechtenstein - 62 square miles
Marshall Islands - 70 square miles
Saint Kitts and Nevis - 104 square miles
Seychelles - 107 square miles
Maldives - 115 square miles
In a list of 231 countries, Singapore stands at rank 187. (1, being the largest country in the world and that is Russia.
Interestingly (to me, at least), Malaysia is larger than the United Kingdom!
You should read up on this if you're bored. I was pretty amazed by the stuff I've found out today.
Well, enjoy your New Year's Day!

On the Last Day of 2008
I had originally planned for an entry on Christmas eve but I guess things got busy and I didn't have the time to do it. Well anyway, New Year's eve pretty much calls for an entry as well!
Quoting from the depths of Wikipedia,
"Traditionally, the Roman calendar began on the first day of
March. However, it was in January (the eleventh month) when the consuls of ancient Rome assumed the government.
Julius Caesar, in 47 BC, changed the system, creating the Julian calendar, with some modifications in the time of Marco Antonio consul in 44 BC, the emperor
Augustus Caesar in
8 BC and finally by
Pope Gregory XIII in
1582, is used today. In this year begins on
January 1. Subsequently, the Gregorian calendar had the habit and the celebration was marked with a religious significance during the Middle Ages and later centuries."
Hmm... this must be one of the rare few Wikipedia entries that I have difficulty understanding. That is not so much in the content of the paragraph, but rather, it has something to do with the structure of the sentences and probably some grammar as well.
Anyway, interestingly, in all countries using the Gregorian calendar, New Year's Day is a public holiday except for Israel. (as found out from Wikipedia without cross-referencing)
More from Wikipedia...
"The Gregorian calendar is the most widely used
calendar in the world today. It was first proposed by the
Calabrian doctor
Aloysius Lilius, and decreed by
Pope Gregory XIII, after whom it was named, on 24 February 1582 by the
papal bull Inter gravissimas.
It is a reform of the
Julian calendar and continues the year numbering system of the Julian calendar, counting years from the traditional
Incarnation of
Jesus. Years after this date are given the designation "
anno Domini" (AD),
[1] or "
Common Era" (CE); years before this date are labeled "before Christ" (BC), or "Before the Common Era" (BCE).
[2]The Gregorian calendar modifies the Julian calendar's regular four-year cycle of
leap years as follows:
Every year that is exactly divisible by four is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible by 100; the centurial years that are exactly divisible by 400 are still leap years. For example, the year 1900 is not a leap year; the year 2000 is a leap year.
[3]"
"The Gregorian solar calendar is an arithmetical calendar. It counts days as the basic unit of time, grouping them into years of 365 or 366 days; and repeats completely every 146,097 days, which fill 400 years, and which also happens to be 20,871 seven-day
weeks. Of these 400 years, 303 (the "common years") have 365 days, and 97 (the leap years) have 366 days. This gives an average year length of exactly 365.2425 days, or 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes and 12 seconds."
It is very interesting how much there is to the calendar we're so used to seeing. There is a whole long history behind it and if you're interested and free and bored enough, you should really read up on it. (If I were to continue quoting, it'll be an extremely looonnnggg entry!)
Here's an early wish for the new year - may all your 2009s be filled with much joy and delight.
Smile always!

MINAHS INVASION!
I just came back from lunch with my father and to my horror I saw 2 minahs in the kitchen. The kitchen was in a bit of a mess. 1 was sitting on the window ledge and the other was inside the kitchen- sitting on the window ledge too but is blocked by the sliding windows. So it's trapped. The minahs were communicationg with each other prolly strategising the escape route for the baby minah that was trapped inside the house. It can't really fly see, so it's a problem to me at least. After several unsuccessful attempt to getr itself out, it clung to a nearby cloth by the end. It went to my toilet next.
ANd now, even while typing this- the baby minah is still stuck as it can't fly out. My father insists on letting it learn how to fly. Now, the mother minah is looking for its offspring- to the extent of going to my window ostensibly looking for its baby. How? I'm scared. Hahahaha.
Latest- The mama minah is inside my house- to my horror! again. This time with something in its mouth. It's taking food to its baby. It came in despite us closing the window- through the small toilet window no doubt. Eew.... Now I can't find the baby minah in my toilet anymore. Where did it go? I'm leaving my room and windows closed for the next 2 days.
AAAAhhhhhh... It's trying every window in my house!!!!!!!!! Trying to come in....GROSS.... I just hope the baby minah can get out soon so that this episode will be over.
