Ah-Chooo!
I've been having this annoying cold for the third consecutive day of this week now so it sparked a little idea for some research.
Here's a summary for those who gets bored easily from reading chunks of text...
Did you know:
Sneezing, also called sternutation, is your body's way of removing an irritation from your nose.
Some of the muscles involved during a sneeze are the abdominal muscles, the chest muscles, the diaphragm, the muscles that control your vocal cords, muscles in the back of your throat and the eyelid muscles.
You always close your eyes when you sneeze.
Sneezing can send tiny particles speeding out of your nose at up to 100 miles per hour.
About one out of every three people sneezes when exposed to bright light. They are called photic sneezers. It is an inherited trait. Most people have some sensitivity to light that can trigger a sneeze. Have you ever had the feeling that you are about to sneeze, but it just gets stuck? Next time that happens, try looking toward a bright light briefly (but don't look right into the sun) - see if that doesn't unstick a stuck sneeze!
The scientific name for photic sneezing is called Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst Syndrome or in short, the ACHOO syndrome!
Well, I hope you had enjoyed reading about sneezes! If you'll excuse me, I feel another sneeze coming...
